About Vern

I am an experienced in-house lawyer with over 15 years’ experience in tech, data and commercial law.  I have held senior in-house legal roles in ASX top 100 listed companies, private companies and possess top-tier private practice experience.   I am a University of Melbourne Arts/Law (first class hons) graduate, a IAPP Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP).

I provide cost effective, pragmatic fractional in-house legal support, particularly on commercial contracting matters, privacy, data, AI, cybersecurity, marketing compliance and IP protection.  I can help your business with navigating dealings with large enterprise customers/suppliers.  I apply an in-house legal lens that is aligned with your commercial objectives and risk appetite, and can act as an effective liaison between your business and external advisers.    

What is a fractional in-house legal counsel?

A fractional in-house legal counsel is a part time or outsourced lawyer who provides legal support to your business, just like an in-house lawyer would.  Instead of being on your payroll, I will work with you on a retainer, as-needed basis or fixed price basis for discrete matters.
